Identity shaped by rhythm
Client
Shakara
Shakara is a contemporary West African restaurant and live music venue in London, combining high-end dining with a culturally rich, music-led atmosphere.
The challenge was to translate heritage into a refined and modern identity without losing its authenticity. The result is a visual system that connects food, sound, and culture through a considered and cohesive design language.
Scope of Work

Cultural Foundation.
The identity draws from West African heritage, using cultural references as a foundation rather than a surface-level aesthetic.

The Talking Drum.
Inspired by the talking drum, a traditional instrument used to mimic human speech, the concept introduces rhythm as a core element of the brand.

Symbol & Craft.
The drum motif was translated into a refined, stamp-like mark, referencing wax seals to convey quality, heritage, and craftsmanship.

Balancing Old & New.
The design combines traditional influence with a contemporary finish, creating something that feels both rooted and forward-looking.

A Cohesive Experience.
The identity was applied across menus, signage, and print, ensuring a consistent presence throughout the space.

Music as Atmosphere.
Live Afrohouse, Afrobeats, and house music play a central role, reinforcing the connection between rhythm, environment, and brand identity.
